Gays and Lesbians of Rustenburg (GLOR) is an all-inclusive, non-profit, Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Intersex (LGBTI) Community based organisation that was founded in 2013 with the aim to provide a social and safe space for LGBTI people and address their needs, interests and concerns, to counter and oppose manifestations of homophobia, prejudice and discrimination on all areas of our society as we promote knowledge on LGBTI issues, foster mainstream acceptance of LGBTI people and facilitate greater understanding of sexual and gender diversity and difference among the Rustenburg public.

VISION

MISSION

The mission of GLOR is to bring transformation, information and resources to the LGBTI community in respect of their mental and physical health, political stance, creed and background; To educate and bring awareness to the Rustenburg communities of the existence of LGBTI people in order to prevent and combat hate crimes, suicide, victimisation and injustice; To preserve the self-liberation of the LGBTI people that was initiated in the early 1990s, and most importantly to engage our communities in dialogues and participation.

AIMS

 

  • Raise awareness on the different forms of sexualities that exist within our communities.

  • Reduce the effects of stigmatisation and discrimination on the basis of gender and sexual orientation.

  • To create safe spaces for the LGBTI and those who want to openly come out.

  • To transform the community’s perception of the LGBTI in order to gain social acceptance, and to also create a platform for those who don’t identify as LGBTI to openly express their support for the LGBTI community.

  • To provide health services and promote healthy sexual practices.
